Canada (Press Release) April 23, 2008 --
ComfortLife.ca is a newly launched online advice guide to help Canada’s aging population decide whether or when to enter a retirement home. The demand for high-end seniors’ housing in North America is rising steadily, driven by a number of factors.
In 2007, the number of Canadians 65 or older rose above four million for the first time. 50 years ago, only one in 13 Canadians was a senior, where today that figure is one in seven.
The baby-boomers are just beginning to enter retirement. They will generate huge demand for retirement homes that meet their particular needs. They are also calling for improved care and more choices for their aging parents. Retirement homes are responding to the call. In fact, the boomers are influencing changes they will benefit from when they retire.
“People need to be educated about the many housing options opening up today,” says the editor of ComfortLife.ca, Jim Huinink.
Retirement living options today include:
-Active Adult Communities, age-exclusive communities, where seniors are still very independent and can use communal amenities such as a golf course, country club, swimming pool and other options. Age of exclusion for these communities can be as low as 50.
-Independent Living retirement homes are ideal for active seniors who want to be part of a community of people the same age. In most cases, these communities can provide patrons with meals, laundry service or other amenities to make their lives easier. Independent living residences also allow seniors to hire whatever home care they may require.
-Congregate living and other retirement homes offer various degrees of care as required.
“The best time to think about a retirement home is right now,” adds Huinink. “Learn all your options and make an informed decision before you or your family become vulnerable to making a fast, ill-advised decision. That’s why ComfortLife.ca is here.”
ComfortLife.ca offers an overview of all care options along with a listing of retirement homes from across Ontario and is published by Our Kids Publications, Ltd.
